Remembering Dr. David Lee Provorse -Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas

Dr. David Lee Provorse served as an associate professor and previously held the position of chairman within the psychology department at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. In 2006, he extended an invitation for me to present a lecture on the topic of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as it relates to both man-made and natural disasters, marking the beginning of a lasting friendship and frequent exchange of ideas and insights. His warmth and approachable, friendly attitude made him a cherished colleague, and he later invited me to participate as a visiting lecturer at Washburn University, where I had the opportunity to deliver several online lectures.

Dr. Provorse possessed extensive knowledge of psychology, with particular interests in the intersection of psychology and athletic performance, as well as the effects of mindfulness on brain chemistry. When I published my book, "Clinical Meditation," in 2023, I was pleased to share a copy with him, and his positive and encouraging feedback was invaluable to me.

He had often expressed a desire to visit Sri Lanka for a brief vacation, a testament to his adventurous spirit. However, in 2024, we faced the heartbreaking loss of Dr. Provorse, which resonated deeply on a personal level, as I lost not only a friend but also a colleague and a steadfast well-wisher. Though he is no longer with us, his remarkable human qualities and the impact he made on those around him will forever be remembered and cherished.
